Mechanism

Event vs task in Google Calendar

2 min read

Overview

A Google Calendar event owns a start and an end. A task owns a due date. Synora reads the due date and writes an event around the week you already have. The list stays capture. The calendar becomes the day.

Same four tasks. The list cannot tell them apart.

Google Calendar can hold an event and a task. They look similar on the grid. They are not the same job. An event vs task in Google Calendar is the difference between a time you will spend and a date something is due.

What actually happens

An event has a start and an end. It occupies the day. A task has a due date. It sits on a list until someone gives it hours. Google can show a task on the calendar; it does not turn the due date into a block around the meetings already there.

Synora treats the due date as the signal. It reads dated work from Google Tasks, Todoist, Trello, Notion, or Linear and writes a Google Calendar event for it, fitted to the next seven days. Event titles influence fit. A 15-minute buffer sits between blocks.

The list stays the list. The calendar becomes the day.

What this does not do

A task without a due date stays on the list. Synora leaves it alone. A meeting added after the plan does not shove existing blocks aside.

The native difference — click an empty slot to drop a Task — lives in Google's own help. This page is the other job: a due date that still needs a time.

Questions

What is the difference between an event and a task in Google Calendar?

An event owns a time. A task owns a due date. Google can show both on the grid. Only the event occupies hours until something writes a block for the task.

Is a due date the same as a scheduled time?

No. A due date is when the work is due. A scheduled time is when you will do it. Synora reads the due date and places the block.

Does Synora turn a Google Task into a calendar event?

Yes, when the task has a due date. Undated items stay on the list. Things and Asana are not supported.

Synora schedules due-dated tasks into the open slots in Google Calendar, around the meetings you already have.
